KAICIID Graduates Educators and Youth Advancing Faith-Based Action for Sustainable Development
The International Dialogue Centre (KAICIID) on 14 December 2025, marked the virtual graduation of two learning cohorts focused on strengthening faith-based engagement for sustainable development and peacebuilding.
A total of 73 educators from Kenya, Angola, Tanzania, Nigeria, and Zimbabwe completed KAICIID’s moderated e-learning course, “Engaging Faith Actors to Support the Implementation Process of the SDGs.”
In addition, 18 young professionals from Kenya graduated from the course “Faith and Sustainable Lifestyles,” which equipped participants with strong skills to promote peace and sustainability through values-based approaches rooted in faith traditions.
The graduation ceremony highlighted the growing role of educators and young leaders in advancing dialogue, social cohesion, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) across diverse communities.
Delivering reflections during the ceremony, Harriet Atieno Ahalo, a KAICIID Fellow and Founder of ReRise, emphasized the central role educators play in peacebuilding and social transformation.
“Educators have the role of emphasizing respect and dialogue, sharing values and ethics from various faith traditions, and confronting prejudices and stereotypes,” Ahalo said. “They can make classrooms spaces for peacebuilding by upholding respect and dialogue, promoting the SDGs, and helping to create peaceful and cohesive societies for both learners and communities.”
The session also featured remarks from Oscar Simento, Director of the Kenya Forest Office, who underscored the importance of cross-sector collaboration in addressing sustainability and development challenges.
KAICIID’s training programs aim to strengthen the capacity of educators, faith actors, and young professionals to engage constructively in development processes, particularly in contexts where faith and community leadership play a significant role.
Organizers congratulated all graduates for their commitment to dialogue, sustainability, and community-driven change, noting that such initiatives contribute to building more peaceful, inclusive, and resilient societies.
