In line with its capacity building programme aligned with its editorial line, the Peace Today is offering a 3-month remote internship opportunity for aspiring media professionals. Interns will contribute to journalism, multimedia production, and digital content development, while gaining hands-on experience in a dynamic newsroom environment.

Interns will work primarily remotely, using open/online sources, with occasional field assignments where necessary.

Internship Terms

§  Duration: 3 months

§  Work Mode: Remote (with occasional field assignments)

§  Working Hours: Flexible, but output-based (weekly deliverables required)

Applicants should be pursuing or have completed studies in any of the following fields: Media, Journalism and Communication, Multimedia or Film Production, Mental Health Studies (including Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy), Peace and Conflict Studies, Peace and Security Studies, Development Studies, Humanitarian Studies, International (Humanitarian) Law, International Relations, Political Science / Politics, Environmental and Climate Change Studies.

Eligibility Requirement:

University students must be at least in their second year of study or have completed their studies.

Note: Skills in data journalism will be considered a strong asset across all positions

Available Positions

1. News Writers (4 Positions)

Writers will research, draft, and publish news stories using credible online/open sources and occasional field reporting.

Key Responsibilities

  • o   Research and write 3–5 articles per week
  • o   Verify facts using reliable sources
  • o   Cover topics such as peacebuilding, social cohesion, unity and reconciliation, resilience, conflict transformation/resolution and mediation, security and conflict, international cooperation/relations and diplomacy, peace promotion-oriented technology, environment and climate change and development.
  • o   Conduct occasional interviews (online or in-person)
  • o   Meet deadlines consistently

Required Skills

  • o   Strong writing and storytelling ability
  • o   Good command of English (knowledge of French or Kinyarwanda is a plus)
  • o   Basic research and fact-checking skills
  • o   Interest in journalism and current affairs
  • o   Basic understanding of digital publishing tools is an advantage

Selection Criteria

  • o   Demonstrated writing ability
  • o   Understanding of news structure (headline, lead, body)
  • o   Reliability and ability to meet deadlines
  • o   Candidates are required to have their own laptop

2. Video Editor (1 Position)

Intern is responsible for editing video content for news stories, interviews, and social media.

Key Responsibilities

o   Edit short news videos and interviews

o   Add subtitles, transitions, and basic graphics

o   Optimize videos for web and social media platforms

o   Collaborate with writers and field reporters

Required Skills

  • o   Proficiency in video editing software (e.g., Adobe Premiere Pro, CapCut, Final Cut, etc.)
  • o   Strong camera operation skills
  • o   Basic skills in storytelling through video
  • o   Attention to detail and creativity
  • o   Ability to meet deadlines

Selection Criteria

  • o   Quality of previous video work
  • o   Creativity and storytelling ability
  • o   Technical editing skills
  • o   Must be based in Kigali 
  •      Candidates are required to have their own laptop

3. Graphic Designer and Digital Content Creator (1 Position)

The intern will be responsible for designing visual content to support news stories and enhance digital engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • o   Create social media graphics and thumbnails
  • o   Design infographics for news stories
  • o   Maintain visual consistency of the brand
  • o   Support digital content strategy

Required Skills

  • o   Proficiency in design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • o   Creativity and visual storytelling skills
  • o   Understanding of social media trends
  • o   Basic branding knowledge

Selection Criteria

o   Strong design portfolio

o   Creativity and originality

o   Ability to follow brand guidelines

o   Candidates are required to have their own laptop
