Trump delays Iran strikes after productive talks
President Donald Trump has announced that the United States will postpone military strikes against Iran for five days following two days of “very good and productive conversations” aimed at ending conflict in the Middle East.
According to a statement posted to his Truth Social account, on Monday, March 23, 2026, the decision halts planned attacks on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period as both nations seek a “complete and total resolution” of their long-standing hostilities.
Trump noted that the shift in policy was based on the “tenor and tone” of last two-days high-level discussions between the two countries.
“I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the middle east,” Trump stated.
The President described the negotiations as “in depth, detailed, and constructive.” Based on that progress, he moved to temporarily de-escalate military pressure in the region.
“I have instructed the department of war to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions,” Trump wrote.
The pause is subject to the continued success of diplomatic meetings scheduled to take place throughout the week.
The announcement comes during a period of tension in the Middle East, where the threat of conflict between Washington and Tehran has remained a central concern for international stability.
