The Republic of Congo has announced that it will eliminate entry visas for all African nationals beginning January 1, 2027, in a move aimed at advancing continental integration and the free movement of people across Africa.

The announcement was made by President Denis Sassou-Nguesso on May 25 during celebrations marking Africa Day in Brazzaville, held on the sidelines of the annual meetings of the African Development Bank (AfDB).

Sassou-Nguesso described the decision as “a concrete step toward the free movement of people on the continent” and urged African nations to accelerate efforts toward adopting a single African passport in line with the ambitions of the African Continental Free Trade Area.

The event brought together several African leaders and senior officials, including President Brice Clotaire Oligui Nguema, representatives of the African Union Commission, and AfDB President Sidi Ould Tah.

Also in attendance was Rwanda’s Prime Minister Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva, who joined Heads of State and delegations for the Africa Day celebrations hosted in Brazzaville during the 2026 Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank Group.
