President Donald Trump has stated that Iran must take the initiative to contact the United States if it wishes to negotiate a ceasefire, effectively ignoring diplomatic efforts currently taking place in Pakistan.

The President’s remarks came as he refused to send a U.S. delegation to scheduled talks in Pakistan.

The refusal occurred despite the arrival of Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi in the country to discuss a potential end to the conflict.

Speaking in an interview with Fox News, Trump made it clear that the burden of communication lies with Tehran.

"If they want to talk, they can come find us or they can call us. You know there are phones; we have a very good, secure line," Trump said.

The President established a firm condition for any future dialogue, focusing on Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

"They know exactly what needs to be in the agreement. It’s simple: they cannot possess nuclear weapons. Otherwise, there is no reason to meet," he added.

Iran has consistently maintained that uranium enrichment is its sovereign right and its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes; not intended for the production of weaponry.

The diplomatic standstill persists while a full-scale war continues. Since the conflict initiated by the United States against Iran, the fighting has already resulted in significant casualties, most notably the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei.

In retaliation, Iran has launched multiple strikes against U.S. allies across the Middle East.

Furthermore, Tehran has closed the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime canal.

The closure of the Strait has blocked 20 per cent of the world's oil supply, a move that is currently causing severe damage to the global economy. While a temporary break in hostilities has been reported, no formal agreement has been reached to end the war.
