IPCR, Resilience Centre Join Forces to Strengthen Peace in Northeast Nigeria
In a renewed push to strengthen peacebuilding efforts in conflict-affected communities, the Institute for Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre for Resilience Building and Development to deepen collaboration in conflict prevention, research, and community engagement.
The partnership seeks to foster stronger cooperation between state and non-state actors through joint activities, strategic conflict assessments, knowledge sharing, and stakeholder engagement initiatives aimed at reducing violence and promoting social cohesion, particularly in Northeast Nigeria.
Speaking during the signing ceremony, the Director-General of the IPCR, Joseph Ochogwu, emphasised the need for collective action in addressing the country’s security challenges.
“Partnerships are critical in addressing insecurity and promoting inclusion across vulnerable communities,” he said. “Through collaboration, we can also support food security and advance national development priorities in line with Nigeria’s foreign policy objectives.”
For many communities in Northeast Nigeria, where years of violence and displacement have disrupted daily life, the agreement represents more than an institutional arrangement. It reflects a growing recognition that sustainable peace requires coordinated engagement between government institutions, civil society, and local communities.
The Centre for Resilience Building and Development described the partnership as “strategic and timely,” noting the importance of Bauchi State as a gateway to the Northeast and a key area for sustaining regional stability.
The organisation stressed that strengthening resilience in vulnerable communities remains essential to preventing the spread of violence and deepening trust among citizens.
Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to building resilient communities, strengthening early warning mechanisms, and promoting sustainable peace initiatives across Nigeria.
“We are committed to promoting sustainable peace across Nigeria through stronger collaboration and community-centered approaches,” the institutions said in a joint reaffirmation following the signing ceremony.
