Muhoozi to Meet Kagame in Rwanda Amid Push to Strengthen Military Ties
Uganda’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, is expected to meet Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame during a two-day visit to Rwanda aimed at strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
Gen. Muhoozi, who also serves as a senior adviser to Ugandan President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on special military operations, arrived in Rwanda on Saturday, July 25.
He was received at Kigali International Airport by Rwanda Defence Force Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Mubarakh Muganga.
Other officials who welcomed him included Maj. Gen. Willy Rwagasana, commander of the Rwanda Defence Force unit responsible for protecting senior government officials, and Col. Ezekiel Matsiko, Uganda’s military adviser at its embassy in Rwanda.
During the visit, Gen. Muhoozi is expected to hold talks with senior Rwandan military officials on ways to deepen cooperation between the two countries’ armed forces before meeting President Kagame.
The visit comes as Rwanda and Uganda seek to strengthen military ties and cooperation on regional peace and security.
Gen. Muhoozi last visited Rwanda in March 2025, when he met senior Rwandan military officials to discuss bilateral cooperation and visited the Rwanda Defence Force Command and Staff College in Nyakinama, Musanze District.
