After leading the midday Angelus prayer at the Vatican on Sunday, Pope Leo XIV spoke about the migration situation in Ceuta and prayed for an end to wars around the world.

“I follow with concern the alarming situation in Ceuta, asking God, through the intercession of Our Lady of Africa, that solutions of peace, stability, and justice may be found.”

The Pope made the appeal in Spanish after the Angelus prayer.

Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city on the northern coast of Africa bordering Morocco, faced a major migration emergency after tens of thousands of people attempted to enter the territory in recent days.

The arrivals overwhelmed reception facilities and led Spain to deploy additional security forces.

The Pope then turned his attention to people suffering from wars around the world and called for continued prayers for peace.

“Let us continue to pray for peace, that wars may cease throughout the world and that diplomatic solutions to conflicts may be found,” he said.

He remembered victims of conflicts, especially “the weakest and most defenseless,” as he prayed for children, the elderly and the sick.

Pope Leo prayed that the Lord would “comfort those who suffer and bless the work of all those who bring help and consolation.”

Later, the indulgence was extended to people who visited a parish or Franciscan church on Saturday, August 1, or Sunday, August 2.
