Qatar Demands International Action to Halt Israeli Violations
The State of Qatar has called on the international community to fulfill its responsibilities by confronting repeated Israeli violations and enforcing United Nations Security Council resolutions to safeguard the prospect of a two-state solution.
Delivering her remarks at an Arria-formula meeting of the Security Council on Saturday, Qatar’s Permanent Representative to the UN, HE Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, stressed that global intervention is required to implement Resolutions 2334 and 2803.
She reaffirmed Qatar’s "steadfast backing for the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people" based on the establishment of an independent state on 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The meeting, organized by the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, Greece, and Latvia, focused on the deteriorating situation in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
She stated that "the meeting came at a timely moment to highlight the ongoing escalation in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, despite efforts to achieve peace and end the war in the Gaza Strip through the comprehensive plan proposed by HE President of the United States Donald Trump."
Addressing the expansion of Israeli territory, Sheikha Alya asserted that "settlement activities were illegal and constituted a flagrant violation of international law, Security Council resolutions and the 2024 advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice."
The Qatari envoy specifically condemned Israel’s recent decision to designate land in the West Bank as "state land."
She rejected all measures intended to alter the demographic composition and legal status of the occupied territories, warning that such actions assault the viability of a Palestinian state and undermine peace efforts, including the current 20-point plan for Gaza.
Turning to religious sites, Her Excellency condemned incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound by Israeli officials and settlers.
She described the raising of the Israeli flag within the courtyards as a "flagrant violation of international law and a provocation to Muslims around the world," while demanding the preservation of the historical status quo in Jerusalem.
The statement notes a condemnation of escalating settler violence against Palestinian civilians, including recent attacks on schools and children.
Qatar called for immediate accountability for those responsible for these violations to ensure regional stability.
