The ceremony took place at the UN Base Camp in Malakal, located in the Upper Nile State.

The decorated contingent, operating as RWANBATT-2, was highly praised for its vital peacekeeping contributions in one of South Sudan’s most volatile and unpredictable regions.

UNMISS Force Commander Maj Gen Junhui Wu presided over the event. He commended the Rwandan troops, paying tribute to their strict discipline and unwavering commitment to international peace.

“The medals you receive today symbolize the trust of the United Nations and the international community. They reflect your courage, your resilience and your professionalism in a complex and demanding operational environment, said Maj Gen Wu.

Since your deployment, you have consistently demonstrated high standards of operational readiness, discipline and team work in your area of responsibility. You have maintained a robust security posture, protecting civilians and supported humanitarian access and your conduct has brought credit to the mission,” he added.

Rwanda’s Senior National Representative in South Sudan, Col Emmanuel Kanobayire, noted that the contingent successfully executed its duties with strong determination despite facing various operational challenges.

He emphasized that the medals being awarded today symbolize more than completion of service, adding that they represent sacrifice, commitment, courage and devotion to principles of international peacekeeping.

The medal parade was attended by senior UNMISS officials, high-ranking military officers, and representatives from different international peacekeeping contingents operating across Upper Nile State.
