Togo removes Visa Requirements for All African Nationals
The Togolese government has announced a shift in border policy on Monday, May 18, granting visa-free entry to all African nationals holding a valid passport.
The decision, directed by the President of the Council, aims to bolster Togo's position as a regional hub for business and exchange.
According to the official communiqué, the measure "reflects the constant commitment of the highest Togolese authorities to promote African integration, strengthen the free movement of persons and goods, and foster increased cooperation between the states and peoples of the continent."
This policy change is part of a broader strategy of modernization and openness, reads statement.
The Minister of Security, Colonel Calixte Batossie MADJOULBA stated that it is intended to make Togo "a regional hub for services, business, culture, and human exchange at the heart of Africa," while reaffirming the country's dedication to Pan-African ideals and continental solidarity.
While the exemption allows for a stay of up to thirty (30) days, the Ministry of Security emphasizes that standard border protocols remain in place.
The Minister reminds travelers that the exemption "does not exempt travelers from complying with the security, immigration, and public health requirements applicable upon entry into the national territory."
To manage the transition, strict immigration formalities remain mandatory.
Travelers must register on the government platform-https://voyage.gouv.tg at least twenty-four hours before their arrival to obtain a travel slip, which must be presented at border posts. This slip is a required administrative and security formality.
Authorities clarified that this exemption does not override existing legal frameworks.
The communiqué notes that the measure "does not prevent the application of legal and regulatory provisions relating to irregular entry, illegal stay, as well as administrative police and national security measures."
Competent administrations at all land, air, and sea entry points have been instructed to ensure the effective implementation of this provision.
The Minister also highlighted that this major reform "contributes to the prominence of Togo and the strengthening of its leadership in terms of African integration and cooperation."
