US War Spending in Iran Hits $25 Billion
The United States has confirmed that since February 28, 2026, when it launched a war against Iran, it has already spent an estimated $25 billion.
This amount is equivalent to the entire annual budget allocated to the U.S. space agency, NASA.
Jules Hurst, an inspector within the Department of Defense, told members of the House Armed Services Committee that the majority of these funds have been invested in weaponry.
However, he did not provide a detailed breakdown of the expenditures or clarify whether the figure includes the costs of repairing damage to U.S. military bases in the Middle East targeted by Iranian forces.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth stated that the spending is not excessive, considering the U.S. goal of spoiling Iran’s ambitions to develop weapons of mass destruction that could cause far greater devastation.
“How much would you pay to ensure Iran does not have nuclear weapons?” Hegseth asked. “How much would you be willing to pay?”
Observers closely following the conflict suggest that the actual amount the U.S. has spent may exceed $25 billion. They point to the fact that just six days into the war, a U.S. official revealed that $11.3 billion had already been spent.
Representative Adam Smith noted that lawmakers had been requesting information regarding the war's costs for a long time, and he commended the Department of Defense for finally providing some figures.
“I am pleased that you have answered that question,” Smith said. “We have been asking for a long time, and no one had given us the numbers until now.”
