FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the tournament exceeded expectations, pointing to packed stadiums and strong global television audiences as evidence that the biggest World Cup in history had been a success.

Standing alongside Trump during a reception at Trump Tower in Manhattan attended by international football stars, Infantino said the competition had united people across nations through the sport.

“The American dream, Mr. President, came to reality,” Infantino said as Trump looked on.

The event took place two days before the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain, with the golden FIFA World Cup trophy displayed beside the two leaders. Trump is expected to present the trophy to the winning team after Sunday's final.

Trump described the tournament as a landmark sporting occasion, saying it had made an impact beyond football.

He called the World Cup “one of the all-time greatest sporting events in history,” adding that the competition had energized not only the football community but also the wider world.

Infantino has repeatedly praised Trump's backing of the tournament, saying the U.S. president played an important role in helping deliver an event that attracted record crowds and worldwide attention.
