Kagame: AI Must Succeed in Africa to Serve Global Humanity
President Paul Kagame has called for global backing for African youth, warning that artificial intelligence must succeed on the continent if the technology is to benefit the rest of the world.
Speaking at the AI for Good Global Summit 2026 in Geneva, Kagame emphasized Africa's strategic readiness to drive the future global digital landscape.
“Artificial intelligence has the power to transform lives and strengthen economies. Africa is well-positioned to contribute to the digital economy,” Kagame stated.
The President pointed to upcoming demographic shifts as a primary reason the global tech sector must prioritize the region.
“By 2050, our continent will have the largest, fastest-growing workforce in the world,” Kagame said.
He stressed that African youth are already proving their capability, noting that scaling these existing local innovations requires immediate financial and structural backing.
“There are many success stories about what our young people are doing on the continent with artificial intelligence. We have to invest in them. It will be a win-win for everyone,” he added.
Kagame also delivered an ultimatum to global leaders and tech developers on the necessity of inclusive development.
“The bottom line, is that for A.I. to serve humanity as a whole, we must get it right in Africa and everywhere else.”
