Trump Declares Us-Iran Ceasefire 'Over'
US President Donald Trump declared the US-Iran ceasefire officially over today, calling Iranian leaders 'scum' and 'liars' at a NATO summit.
The collapse of the truce occurred in Ankara, Turkey, July 8, when a reporter pressed the president on the status of the diplomatic agreement. as reported by BBC, the journalist asked: "Is the ceasefire over? Is the ceasefire done? Is the MoU dead?"
The question referred to the crucial memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed last month, which had extended the ceasefire between the two nations.
Trump responded without hesitation, abruptly walking away from the agreement.
"It's a very interesting question. To me, I think it's over," Trump replied.
The president then launched into a critique of the Iranian regime, calling them untrustworthy and dangerous.
"I don't want to deal with them anymore, they're scum. You know what scum is? They're scum. They're sick people. They're led by sick people. And they're vicious, violent people," Trump said. "And if they had a nuclear weapon, they'd use it. As far as I'm concerned it's over."
Trump noted that while his top diplomatic team remains open to discussions, he considers further dialogue a dead end.
"I'll speak to our negotiators, they want to negotiate, they're good people. Steve Witkoff, Jared Kushner, but they have to come back to me. As far as I'm concerned, it's just a waste of time dealing with them. They're liars," he stated.
To illustrate his frustration with Iranian diplomacy, Trump contrasted them with Western allies, physically pointing to the NATO chief to make his point.
"We make a deal. If I make a deal with him [pointing at Nato Secretary-General Mark Rutte], we have a deal. He goes out, he talks. We [US and Iran] make a deal, everyone's agreed, no nuclear weapon," Trump explained.
He accused Tehran of immediately denying agreements to the media as soon as formal talks conclude.
"We make a deal. They [Iran] go outside, talk to the press, they say 'we never even talked about it'. There's something wrong with them. They're cuckoo. As far as I'm concerned, it's over," Trump said.
When asked by reporters if the two sides would ever return to the negotiating table to salvage the peace process, Trump expressed complete indifference.
"I don't care; they can talk. But I think they're wasting their time. They're a bunch of lying guys," Trump said.
