At least 13 people, including children, were killed overnight Thursday, June 2 when Russian forces launched a massive wave of 74 missiles and 496 drones targeting Ukraine’s capital, hours after President Volodymyr Zelensky warned an attack was pending.

The large-scale bombardment triggered widespread evacuations across Kyiv as explosions rocked residential neighborhoods.

Ukraine’s State Emergency Service confirmed that more than 30 people were injured and 34 others have been rescued so far, with emergency teams still searching through the rubble of a high-rise apartment building and homes in the southeast of the city.

Tymur Tkachenko, the head of Kyiv's military administration, confirmed that children were among the high number of casualties.

"The enemy is once again deliberately targeting residential areas and killing civilians," Tkachenko said early on Thursday.

Ukraine’s air force reported that while air defense systems successfully intercepted the majority of the incoming threats, 25 ballistic missiles and 12 drones broke through, striking 33 distinct locations across the capital.

Firefighters worked into the morning to douse a blaze tearing through a hotel on a central boulevard, while another strike damaged a local ambulance station, leaving at least one person critically injured.
