A group of soldiers from the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) Special Operations Force has successfully completed a 22-week Basic Counter-Terrorism training programme aimed at strengthening the country’s readiness to respond to emerging security threats.

The training was conducted at the Rwanda Military Academy Gako and concluded with a graduation ceremony presided over by Maj Gen Vincent Nyakarundi, RDF Army Chief of Staff, on behalf of the Chief of Defence Staff. The event was attended by senior RDF generals and officers who gathered to celebrate the achievements of the newly trained soldiers.

Designed to sharpen the operational capabilities of the Special Operations Force, the course combined advanced tactical instruction with practical field exercises. Participants were trained to respond effectively to terrorist incidents and carry out complex rescue missions for civilians held by terrorist groups.

Speaking at the ceremony, Maj. Gen. Nyakarundi praised the trainers for their dedication and professionalism in delivering high-quality instruction that strengthens the operational capacity of RDF personnel. He also congratulated the graduates for their discipline and resilience in completing the demanding training program.

For the soldiers, the program represents more than a graduation milestone. It marks the beginning of a renewed commitment to protecting communities and responding swiftly to threats that endanger lives and security.
