Tehran has launched a wave of missile strikes against energy infrastructure in Qatar and Saudi Arabia following an alleged and blaming Israeli hit on the South Pars gas field on March 18.

QatarEnergy confirmed significant damage at Ras Laffan Industrial City while Saudi forces reported intercepting four ballistic missiles over Riyadh and a drone targeting a gas facility.

Global oil markets reacted sharply with Brent crude jumping 5% to over $108 a barrel as the Strait of Hormuz remains effectively closed.

In the United States diesel prices have surged past $5 per gallon creating a political crisis for president Donald Trump.

Reports suggest the White House was aware of Israel’s plan to target the Iranian gas facility which marks a shift away from previous efforts to spare civilian energy hubs.

Qatar has condemned the Israeli strike as irresponsible while simultaneously expelling two Iranian diplomats for breaching international law.

Iranian officials have designated several Gulf refineries and petrochemical complexes as legitimate targets and ordered immediate evacuations of those sites.

Israel killed Iran’s intelligence minister Esmail Khatib on Wednesday, a day after killing powerful security chief Ali Larijani.

Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz said “No one in Iran has immunity and everyone is in the crosshairs.”

Minister warned that no Iranian official has immunity as the military receives authorization to strike senior leaders without prior political approval.

Casualties continue to mount with Human Rights Activists News Agency (HRANA)-U.S.-based Iran human rights group said on Monday estimating over 3000 deaths in Iran, and 800,000 forced to flee their homes while Lebanese authorities reporting 900 fatalities.

The ongoing conflict has claimed at least 13 US military service members since the start of the campaign in late February.

European and French leaders are calling for an immediate moratorium on strikes against civilian infrastructure to protect global water and energy supplies.
