Kagame issued the directive on Tuesday, July 28 while addressing 769 participants of the 16th edition of the Indangamirwa civic education program at the Gabiro Combat Training Centre in Gatsibo District.

The participants include 137 foreign students, 125 students from international schools operating in Rwanda, 301 students from higher learning institutions and universities, and 206 outstanding participants from the 13th cohort of Urugerero rw'Inkomezabigwi.

The President made the remarks after participants demonstrated their progress in learning Kinyarwanda, a key component of the training aimed at promoting unity and strengthening communication among Rwandans.

Kagame instructed Chief of Defence Staff Gen. Mubarakh Muganga and Inspector General of Police CG Felix Namuhoranye to ensure that members of the RDF and RNP are trained to use Kinyarwanda properly.

"CDS, I have told you, teach Kinyarwanda in our army as well. And IGP, the languages being spoken, you want to distort them because you want to sound like those other people. Some people like ‘vibes’; that is another issue, and I will not get into it."

Kagame also said young people have an advantage when it comes to learning languages because they can easily adapt compared with older generations.

"Apart from you, there are also older people who do not know Kinyarwanda. Your advantage is that you are still young; if you want to learn, you learn quickly. But older people who are almost my age, when they do not know Kinyarwanda, you have to persuade them, speak to them, and repeat yourself."

The Head of State called on officials to establish a program that would allow people to learn Kinyarwanda from anywhere.

"You should establish a Kinyarwanda learning program that they can follow wherever they are."

The President praised the Indangamirwa participants for learning patriotic chants and improving their ability to express themselves.
