Rwanda calls for immediate ceasefire following Iranian aggression
Rwanda has called for an immediate cessation of hostilities and the protection of civilians during an urgent United Nations debate regarding Iranian aggression against several Gulf states and Jordan.
Speaking at the 61st Session of the Human Rights Council (HRC61), the Permanent Mission of Rwanda "reaffirmed that protection of civilians and respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity are fundamental obligations under international law."
The statement was delivered during an urgent debate centered on recent regional tensions involving Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan.
According to this statement shared through X-account of Embassy of Rwanda to Switzerland-Geneva on March 25, they confirmed its support for the current resolution, stressing that its implementation "must lead to de-escalation, ceasefire, and sustainable peace."
The mission further "called for immediate cessation of hostilities and urgent protection of civilian populations, infrastructure, and key economic and maritime routes."
To avoid continued casualties, the Rwandan delegation "emphasised the need for renewed diplomatic engagement to prevent further loss of life."
Rwanda also expressed solidarity with GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Member States and Jordan while advocating for collective efforts toward stability and a durable peaceful resolution.
