The Interpeace and the Kofi Annan Foundation have announced plans to strengthen their cooperation in an effort to advance global peacebuilding efforts.

The initiative comes amid growing concern among international actors that traditional approaches are no longer sufficient to address today’s complex conflicts. By deepening their partnership, the two organisations aim to respond more effectively to global peace and security challenges.

Strengthening this collaboration comes at a critical time, as violent conflicts around the world are reaching levels not seen in decades and resources for peacebuilding are increasingly constrained. In response, the two Geneva-based organisations are stepping up their collaboration to mitigate these challenges and expand their impact.

With the support of Fondation pour l'adaptation de la Genève internationale (FAGI), the organisations will co-locate in Geneva, enabling closer collaboration and more efficient coordination. The arrangement will allow both institutions to expand joint programming and develop administrative and budgetary efficiencies while maintaining their independence and distinct mandates.

The strengthened cooperation will focus on several priority areas where the missions of the two organizations converge. These include advancing the Youth, Peace and Security agenda, preventing violence and electoral risks, promoting the links between peace and food security, and supporting trauma-informed peacebuilding approaches.

In a joint statement issued on 9 March, both organisations say the partnership reflects a broader recognition that stronger collaboration among peace actors is essential in the current international context. As global tensions rise and multilateral systems face increasing pressure, new models of cooperation are needed to sustain and strengthen peace efforts.

By joining forces more closely, Interpeace and the Kofi Annan Foundation hope their collaboration will not only enhance their collective impact but also encourage other organisations to work more collaboratively.

Strengthening peace today, they emphasise, requires not only renewed political commitment but also the willingness to adapt, cooperate, and build new partnerships capable of responding to evolving global challenges.
